Does it hurt to extract a wisdom tooth?
At Comfort Dental Centre Buderim, one of the most common procedures we perform is the wisdom tooth removal. We use local anaesthesia to numb your gums before removing a wisdom tooth. You will not feel any pain while the dentist removes the tooth.
The same goes for all tooth extractions in our office. Your dentist will discuss the procedure with you first to keep your mind at ease. We put patient comfort and safety at the top of our list, so there’s nothing to worry about.
Your dentist will also provide detailed instructions on how to take care of yourself after the procedure. Antibiotics may be given to aid healing. A follow up appointment is recommended to monitor your recovery.
What happens to the tooth after a root canal procedure?
A root canal procedure is done to save a tooth from extraction due to infected dental pulp. The dental pulp contains the tooth’s nerve, which serves as the tooth sensory tool. When the enamel that protects the pulp is damaged, the pulp is exposed causing an infection. Microbes attack the pulp and pain from tooth sensitivity follows suit.
After the root canal procedure, your tooth returns to normal. Its function will not be changed and you will no longer feel pain. A well-performed and successful root canal treatment can last a lifetime and the success rate is very high.
Will there be any limitations on the types of foods I can eat following an implant procedure?
To recover quickly, your will be advised to keep a soft diet for the first few days. During this time, you also need to avoid using straws when drinking as the sucking motion can cause bleeding. After the treatment your dentist will provide all the necessary home care guidelines, which you need to follow correctly.
Dental implants are fixed restorative devices. They are a permanent solution to a missing tooth. They can take a long time to heal. After the implant is inserted in the gums, it takes up to six months for the bone to heal. This is called Osseointergration.
Some factors that could affect the success of the treatment include gum disease, diabetes, cancer, alcoholism, and smoking.

How can I avoid tooth sensitivity?
Your teeth may become sensitive to hot, cold, and sweet intake. Pain is associated with the sensitivity, which can be a major inconvenience.
To avoid tooth sensitivity, the best thing to do is practice good oral hygiene habits. From following proper brushing and flossing techniques to scheduling regular dental check ups and dental cleaning, it is important to keep your dental habits religiously.
Tooth sensitivity is actually an accompanying issue to a more complicated dental problem compromising your oral health. If you have sensitive teeth, you likely have another dental problem underlying it. The following are some of these issues:
- Exposed roots because of receded gums
- Tooth decay
- Poor dental hygiene
- Cracked or broken teeth
- Bruxism (teeth grinding)
- Damaged dental restoration (dental crowns, fillings, inlays/onlays)
- Nerve damage
- Worn tooth enamel from aggressive brushing
- Tooth erosion from acidic food and drinks
- Recent dental work (teeth whitening, crowns, fillings, veneers)

My teeth look fine. Do I still need to visit my dentist regularly?
Yes. Brushing and flossing are your number one weapons in fighting dental issues; but they are not enough. Though you may not be currently experiencing any toothaches or soreness in your mouth, it is still possible that you have existing dental problems you aren’t aware of. Even if your teeth look and feel fine, you need to visit your dental team to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
During a dental check-up, your dentist will assess your oral health status through a series of tests. Your dentist may conduct an X-ray of your mouth, test bite capacity, screen for mouth diseases such as oral cancer, perform professional cleaning, and recommend an oral hygiene program to follow.
It’s recommended that you visit your dentist every six months. The services performed during your appointment may vary according to what you need. For instance, a professional cleaning may not be needed as often as twice a year.
